(Between 5 and 6 Mile Roads)
Mary-Go-Round Equestrain Center is a new boarding, training and lesson facility located in South Lyon, Michigan. Mary Roskens is the owner/operator and lives on site. Mary has been training horses and giving lessons for more than 25 years. Most recently Mary has been involved in training horses and teaching students in both hunters and jumpers and they have been showing successfully on the A circuit. Specializing in ponies over the past few years, nearly all of the ponies she has trained have qualified and competed in the National Pony Finals.
Mary's background in horses is diverse and widespread. As a youth she competed in 4-H and open shows, both in Western and English. Mary worked at Kohler Stables in Wisconsin, a nationally recognized Morgan show stable, as well as training horses on a Quarter Horse breeding farm in Iowa, showing on the Quarter Horse circuit. Summers between years of college were spent as the head wrangler at a horse camp in Western Michigan. After that she groomed professionally and rode at Stonehedge Farm in New York, an upscale hunter/jumper facility, under Mindy Mineto, a RRR hunter judge. From there Mary's travels took her to Costa Rica, where she rode and trained caballos Espanoles. Riding and learning under an amazingly talented and gifted trainer, the horses were being trained to upper level dressage and then used to protect the matadors in bullfights!
From Costa Rica, travels took the Roskens family to Bolivia, South America, where Mary ran a training, lesson and showing stable. Her students competed on a national level and her daughter was the National Grand Champion in First Level Dressage, as well as the Reserve National Champion in Jumpers in the 12 and under age category as a 7 year old! While in Bolivia, Mary and her daughter, Danielle had the priviledge of riding and training under Elias Salim and Lorena Sarmiento, two internationally recognized riders and trainers from Argentina. Elias competed in the Three Day Event World Games in Rome and he and Lorena breed and train Warmbloods in Argentina, Elias in jumpers and eventing and Lorena in Dressage.
Through all of her diverse learning and experience, Mary has developed a real love for teaching and training horses and the people who ride them. If there is a gift to be passed on in her training, it is the gift of teaching both horses and students how to like to learn. If a horse is praised often and brought along with the fundamental building blocks, they develop a love for partnering with humans and a love for learning new things. Mary's background and schooling in psychology and social work helps her to understand learning styles of both horses and riders.
Mary-Go-Round offers boarding, training and lessons and camps for hunters, jumpers, dressage and western. Lessons are offered for any age rider in private, semi-private and groups. Lesson and lease horses and ponies are available. The facility is located on Dixboro Road between five and six mile in South Lyon, MI and is less than 30 minutes from Ann Arbor, Novi, Northville, Plymouth and Milford. The stable is new, clean and bright with good fencing and nice paddocks and pasture land. The outdoor arena is 100 x 200 with good fencing and excellent footing. The indoor is 70 x 120 with very little dust and excellent footing.
The stable has a small menagerie of super friendly farm animals available to play with including a Siberian Huskey, a mutt, 4 barn cats, and six chickens!
